Expertology and you.

Kicking-off posts are so passe, y’know? That whole “welcome to my website” thing, like you’ve just opened up a shop in the space where old Mr. Murray’s dry cleaners used to be until you Mrs. Murray ran off with the delivery boy and the savings. Surely we can skip all that and get right into it, yeah?

Tonight is rather uneventful, but as this week has been less than exciting it’s hardly without company. Work has been a slow slog of trying to get done a number of things that all require a number of other things to happen before any progress can be made, all of which results in me quite literally twirling my thumbs while looking for something useful to do. Other than that, there were the week’s new comics and a second viewing of Grindhouse yesterday and putting down a bunch of loose ideas for a game I’m thinking of in an email to Jones the day before, and that’s more or less it. Jones writes back some time last night to say he doesn’t see it yet, and that’s fine as there’s not much to see right now. Current thinking on on the game (henceforth to be referred to as The Game Idea) is abstract at best and hard to put into words, which is fine for incubating but not much good when trying to articulate it. I need to spend some time nailing down at least the foundation before it all slips back into Idea Space. Tonight though, it’s all about gin and tonics, Excite Truck, wondering when the weather will decide whether I should leave my windows open or not, and starting this here blog thing. Also listening to this and this over and over again at unhealthy levels, because DAMN.

I’ve had the site reserved for a while now, if only to nail down the brilliant job description of EXPERTOLOGIST (as seen on a billboard for laser hair removal some where in the expanse of Alabama between Huntsville and Anniston over the holidays last year) as mine forever and always. Was putting off working on it because A), my approach to working in CSS is to rip out large chunks of code to see what breaks when I do, and then try and sort of put back the ones I want, and B), I didn’t really know what to say. This marks my…fourth? fifth? blog thing that I’ve started, and they’ve all sort of died on their feet for one reason or another. Usually because of me. To make a long story short, most writers tend to imagine the audience that will read what they write to one degree or another. I always end up imagining an audience that doesn’t like me very much.

But y’know, whatever. I’ve decided to start the blog without any idea of what to actually do with it beyond a handful of things I like talking about, including but not limited to game design, music, and…a number of other things, to be determined later. There will probably also be pictures, as I like taking them, and probably also a few inevitable YouTube clips. This is the internet, after all.

And this appears to be a kicking-off post after all, despite my best intentions. Ah well.
